My name is Krystal Langford and I am the owner and creator of T-Shirt and Genes.
2. How was T-Shirt and Genes born? How did you start?
T-Shirt and Genes was started as a way to honor my grandmother after she passed away. As I was going through old family photos preparing for her memorial, I became very interested in the stories connected to the images. I felt like these images and stories should be seen and shared. I began wearing the images on shirts as a way to to be able to share the stories of my family. Hence why we use the G E N E S (a play on the word jeans). Other people liked the idea and began digging up old family photos and ordering shirts as gifts and for themselves.
3. What makes T-Shirt and Genes different? Can you explain your products with details?
There are many t-shirt brands. T-Shirt and Genes is different because we celebrate each individual customer’s story. Not only do we make custom shirts, but also the graphic tees that we make tell story’s that celebrate the small nuances within our culture. Not matter what is on the shirt, it is attached to a story born out of our culture.
4. What reactions do you get from your clients? Do they love your products?
Customers have told me that people have cried when they have received one of our custom shirts as a gift. Some of the shirts we have made and sell on our website give people a sense of pride like our “How Detroit am I Gonna Have to Get” shirt. And some of them are just hilarious like our “I Like to Cuss” shirt.
5. What are the advantages of T-Shirt and Genes?
The advantage of T-Shirt and Genes is exclusively. No one else can duplicate your story. Also, our shirts are not cookie cutter, cliche shirts. The ideas are one of a kind and always fresh.
