1. Can you introduce yourself and Fender’s Blue Hemp?
We are business partners and life partners, Mackenzie and Aaron, and we started our farm-to-wellness brand in 2020. Our vegan and USDA certified organic hemp farm is located in Philomath, Oregon, and we sell our hemp products on our e-commerce shop at fendersbluehemp.com. We strive to live a lifestyle that is rooted in promoting our own wellness and the wellness of our loved ones, and our hemp business is just one component of that.
2. How was Fender’s Blue Hemp born? How did you start?
Fender’s Blue Hemp was founded by General Manager, Aaron Williams, who discovered the power of hemp along his healing journey. Aaron made it his mission to share how cannabinoids, like CBD, have helped him recover and he is determined to share his knowledge with others.
As a collegiate football player, Aaron suffered many injuries and multiple surgeries that unfortunately resulted in daily severe chronic pain. Searching for something to relieve his physical agony and discomfort, he discovered hemp products that contain a high CBD potency and other cannabinoids to relieve some of his pain, stiffness, and inflammation. What Aaron loved most is that the CBD products came without any negative side effects that he often felt with stronger pain relievers. In addition to hemp CBD products, he found that the combination of consuming cannabinoids and a vegan diet began to accelerate his recovery. The only problem was that there weren’t any hemp products on the market that were third-party certified USDA Organic and Vegan. Aaron knew that if he could produce the products he was looking for, he could help others in his position, such as other former athletes and members of his family, specifically his mother, Jennifer, who suffers from a number of rare health conditions.
Aaron dove head-first into the hemp industry, helping to cultivate the plant by starting an 8-acre farm in Philomath, Oregon. Farmed by renowned veteran USDA Organic growers Dai Crisp and PK McCoy, who operate Lumos Wine Co., Fender’s Blue Hemp has undergone and achieved the same rigorous standard, which allowed the farm to be one of the first certified organic hemp farms in the country. Additionally, all products are certified vegan by Vegan Action, ensuring that our products are free of animal products, animal testing, and animal GMOs.
Decorating the hillside just above the farm is the Kincaid’s Lupine, a native Oregon flower that serves as a host plant for Fender’s Blue butterflies. The farm is named after these beautiful, endangered butterflies that Dai, PK, and their neighbors have been committed to preserving in concert with the phenomenal work of the Institute for Applied Ecology in Corvallis, Oregon. Our goal is to help continue their legacy of ecological stewardship.
3. What makes Fender’s Blue Hemp different? Can you explain your products with details?
One of the greatest differentiators between our business and competitors is that we are involved in every aspect of the supply chain in the hemp industry, from cultivating the hemp on our farm, including the processing of our hemp biomass into oil, as well as running an online retail store. Many growers sell their hemp to processors or a cbd brand, and many cbd brands do not grow their own hemp. This is how we came up with the idea for our farm-to-wellness tagline. Additionally, our farm, processing facility and products are all certified USDA Organic, and our products are certified vegan by Vegan Action.
Our current product offering is a 2oz bottle of full-spectrum, single-origin hemp oil drops. Each bottle of oil drops contains about 1,000 milligrams of CBD, which is combined with USDA Organic MCT oil, which is a form of coconut oil. The product is designed to be taken sublingually (beneath the tongue), although many customers drop their oil into their coffee, smoothie, tea, or even top of food, and ingest it rather than the sublingual method.
We plan to launch two more products this year: one will be a topical and the other is an olive oil blend. Our team also is launching a few different types of apparel, which we are excited to share with our shoppers, soon!
4. What reactions do you get from your clients? Do they love your products?
Our customers absolutely love the product we offer! The most common reaction we get is that they truly see positive results from using our product. Effects vary, but many costumers report a general sense of calm and relaxation, improved sleep, reduced inflammation, pain relief, and improvement in anxiety management. Customers also enjoy the taste of the product, which tastes, naturally, like hemp! Since our oil is unadulterated, the taste is strong, but that’s how our customers know that our product came straight from the farm and doesn’t contain any unnecessary additives. Additionally, our customers have told us that they find it fun to unbox our product because of the unique packaging, and they like the look and feel of our brand. Lastly, customers have felt a strong connection with us and our brand because of our story and how we came to be.
5. What are the advantages of Fender’s Blue Hemp?
We are a small and family-operated business, and we chose to get involved in this project simply to share with others the hemp wellness that we discovered, particularly those who might not otherwise have affordable access to it. We genuinely care about what our customers put in their body and the impact that certain farming practices and products have on the environment, so we like to tell our customers that shopping with us is good for your body, and good for the planet.
Another advantage of Fender’s Blue Hemp is that our team prioritizes giving back to our community. Starting this past January, we have started a campaign we call, “Cause of the Month”. Each month, we select a different nonprofit to highlight on our social media accounts, and at the end of the month, we give back a portion of our sales to that organization. As a vegan hemp company, we decided that it is important to give back to our community by giving the spotlight primarily to organizations who serve our furry friends and other animals alike, as well as causes that generally support a vegan, sustainable, earth-friendly and wellness-oriented lifestyle. Examples of organizations who we have partnered with include Forgotten Dogs Rescue, Heartwood Haven and Support + Feed, all nonprofits who have missions that align closely with the values of our business and each of us on our team in a personal way.
