1. Can you introduce yourself and Cycle Touring Life?
My name is Dominic Rivard and I have been an entrepreneur most of my life in various businesses and for a long time have wanted to get into the e-commerce industry seeing its rapid rise from the sidelines. Some of the best and most memorable experiences I have had were on the saddle of a bike, traveling in many parts of the world. I have always been passionate about cycling and travel, so I wanted to combine my love for cycling and a growing business model at the same time.
2. How was Cycle Touring Life born? How did you start?
Having a business that exploits my passion for bicycle touring is a great way to live! After looking onto ecommerce models, I set up a shopify store and started dropshipping quality bike gear. I quickly found out that the best model for my business in this market is to stock locally in order to be able to provide better and quicker service. So I started building local inventory a few months into the business and things have been great every since. Learning the business through dropshipping has enabled me to make the necessary mistakes to take the business to the next level with little risk. So I started small but quickly “went all in” as soon as I saw that this can work with the right focus and effort. The future is bright for the Cycle Touring Life and I looking forward to expanding the business to the next level.
3. What makes Cycle Touring Life different? Can you explain your products with details?
There is a huge revival into cycling, traveling more “locally” due to the pandemic and people are discovering the benefits of “slower” travel and rediscovering where they live. Bicycle touring, bike camping and bikepacking is on an exponential growth curve. People are looking for bicycle gear that specialize in touring, including bags, lightweight camping gear and everything related to that. Cycle Touring Life caters specifically to this model of travel and to people that have a wanderlust for exploring the world on two wheels.
We are the exclusive importer and distributor in North America for the WOHO XTouring brand of bikepacking gear and have also developed our own brand of bike panniers, backpacks and hydration bladders, specific to cycling. We distribute quality brands that bike commuters and long-distance “around the world” bike tourers are searching for and provide fast and exceptional service.
4. What reactions do you get from your clients? Do they love your products?
Being the “one stop shop” for anything related to bike touring, bikepacking and camping, in the last year we have been in operation, the feedback has been tremendous. It is important to provide immediate service and our customers appreciate that. The positive reactions we have received thus far has provided the confidence to expand the online operations into setting up a “brick and mortar” business as well locally, due to open late Spring 2021.
