1. Can you introduce yourself and Nymfavintage?
My name is Ondine, i am based in Paris, and the founder of Nymfavintage. I am a vintage luxury clothing collector, a true feminist and music composer. Today, i run this project on my own : It is a project about women, for women, by a woman. Nymfavintage is for vintage lovers who want to create a high quality and powerful wardrobe.
2. How was Nymfavintage born? How did you start?
As a former luxury womenswear designer, creating elaborated pieces for strong women was a daily task. Vintage research has always been part of the job, starting at school. People in the industry use rare or particular pieces from another time as a base and inspiration for creation. I was also thrifting on the side for myself. After realizing I was spending all my time researching vintage (clothes but also furniture, objects & books) and deciding to be more sustainable, wearing and buying new was not something i was considering anymore. There are so many treasures already made, especially before the arrival of fast-fashion, at a time where the big fashion houses were not under so much pressure to produce tons of clothes a year and had more time to find the right cut, the right fabric, the right finishings, the right message.
Being a feminist at heart, i wanted this project to have another purpose and be about women. So i put it all together.
3. What makes Nymfavintage different? Can you explain your products with details?
I choose vintage designer pieces to empower women.
The brands i choose know about women, and as every fashion house, they have a message. I listen to that message and preserve it.
But i am more into the garment itself than the brand. I always try on everything i buy. If the garment makes me feel empowered, i add it to the selection. Fashion is a statement, and what we wear is rooted in our personal identity.
What you wear is a way to take up space.
Therefore, dressing in vintage will make your wardrobe eco-friendly, powerful & one-of-a-kind.
I always select garments carefully and consciously, they are all made in europe (france and italy the most) and in very good (most of the time perfect) condition.
I am also building an archive for renting. As i said before, fashion professionals need an inspiring base for creation, and i would like to offer that. As a former designer, i am now on the other side and know what they are looking for.
4. What reactions do you get from your clients? Do they love your products?
I give a lot of importance on the seller-client relationship. I believe that when you buy from a very small business like mine, you pay for the human experience too. I always make sure the clients or professionals i work with feel at ease, listened, respected and therefore, satisfied. I am very accessible, as anyone can contact me and come visit the showroom ! And for the non-Paris customers, I ship worldwide!
5. What are the advantages of Nymfavintage?
The advantages are the mixed media paths the project is taking.
I collaborate and work with women i admire : through the models of my photoshoots, illustrators, and soon-to-come, dancers.
I like representing the Nymfa woman through mixed media and a female gaze.
On my Instagram page, i’ve started to speak about women in the art industry i admire too.
This project is not only a vintage clothing store, but also a place for #womeninthearts to be visible.
Collecting vintage and making an archive is one thing. But your vision of vintage you offer is very personal. I believe developing your personal style will only make you more aligned with who you are and want to be.
I wanted to emphasize this.
