1. Can you introduce yourself and Oceanness?
My name is Gaute and I’m the founder of Oceanness. I grew up in a small city by the southern coast of Norway. I love the ocean, and the sound of it always gives me a deep inner peace. Oceanness is an eco-friendly fashion brand, created to save the ocean. We offer a wide range of ocean-friendly products, from apparel made from 100% recycled plastic bottles, to jewellery made from ocean plastic. For every product sold, we collect 2 kg plastic waste (equivalent to 100 plastic bottles) from oceans and waterways.
2. How was Oceanness born? How did you start?
Growing up on the southern coast of Norway, I learned to love the ocean. However, as I was growing up, I started realizing the massive issue of ocean plastic pollution that we are facing. Thus, I started Oceanness with a mission to save the ocean. I spent several months researching how I could create something that truly would help save the ocean. The result was fashionable, yet eco-friendly apparel made from 100% recycled plastic bottles, and ocean-bound plastic collected in high-impact areas, like Indonesia and Haiti. Later, we added handmade jewellery made from ocean plastic collected on the very shores that I grew up on.
3. What makes Oceanness different? Can you explain your products with details?
Oceanness is different from other brands because it was built from the bottom with the ocean in mind. From biodegradable packaging, to pulling plastic from the ocean, everything we do is for our love of the ocean.
Additionally, each Oceanness t-shirt comes with its own special QR-code, telling your unique t-shirt’s story, from cradle to your hands. Where were the plastic collected? And who sewed your exact t-shirt? Simply scan the QR code on your unique Oceanness t-shirt and find out.
4. What reactions do you get from your clients? Do they love your products?

5. What are the advantages of Oceanness?
The advantages of Oceanness is that you can look good while doing good. We want our apparel to be a substitute to clothes that are not environmentally friendly, like clothes made from virgin polyester, which is 70% of all clothes today and made from oil (yuck). As we want to be a proper substitute, we never make sacrifices to quality or design. This way, you can help save the ocean, and look great while doing it.
