1. Can you introduce yourself and Paper Straws GB?
My name is Jaspal Sian and I am the founding member of Paper Straws GB. Paper Straws GB manufactures high quality biodegradable, recyclable, compostable and ECO friendly paper straws in Great Britain. We are a family business with high ethical standards and a vision to create a better world for our children.
2. How was Paper Straws GB born? How did you start?
We had watched for some time with increasing alarm the damage caused by single use plastics to the environment. One of the main culprits responsible for this damage is plastic straws. Plastic straws are extremely damaging to the environment and consume a lot of resources in the manufacturing process. We also saw increasing amounts of plastic straws and waste strewn on our beaches, roadsides and countryside. This causes untold long term environmental damage. Most of the paper straws sold in the UK were imported from China and other countries in the Far East. Imported straws are often of questionably quality and also have an associated huge carbon footprint.
We setup Paper Straws GB to help arrest the degradation to our environment by offering an alternative solution and create a better world for our children. We are delighted with the positive feedback from our clients and reassured that the public shares our view that our planet matters.
3. What makes Paper Straws GB different? Can you explain your products with details?
Our iconic high quality papers straws and packaging are biodegradable, recyclable, compostable and eco friendly. Our raw materials are sourced from suppliers using 100% virgin FSC® or PEFC® certified fibres. FSC® and PEFC® certification enable supplier to demonstrate their excellence in sustainable forest management. Our materials are further certified as marine and soil biodegradable. All our paper straws break down completely and naturally into non-toxic components that will not harm the environment.
Our paper straws are made from plastic free materials meeting European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) and the USA Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards for food safe products and in compliance with the UK’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) guidelines.
We are proud to manufacture our high quality paper straws in Great Britain and offer them directly to the public. This eliminates the need for our clients to import straws from faraway places.
