1. Can you introduce yourself and Rebel Villa?
Our names are Sonnet O’Kane & Mindy Flynn and we are the owners of Rebel Villa, a home decor company focusing on affordable boho style accents with a modern twist.
2. How was Rebel Villa born? How did you start?
We both held full-time jobs and decided to start a “side hustle” to make additional income. Our initial aspiration was to use our overseas product development and sourcing skills to make unique items for Amazon sales (looking back at the list of items we thought would do well on Amazon is comical). Probably like many people, we thought it would be so easy because Amazon would essentially run our business for us. Well, many bumps in the road later, we ended up with the opportunity to put more time into our business and to focus on styles that we loved and it evolved into our own custom, home decor ecommerce business instead. We now have our Shopify site www.rebelvilla.com as well as our Etsy site www.etsy.com/shop/RebelVilla and we sell on our social media channels Instagram www.instagram.com/rebelvilla and Pinterest www.pinterest.com/RebelVillaSonnet.
3. What makes Rebel Villa different? Can you explain your products with details?
I think that there are so many small businesses out there who buy their products off the shelf from various overseas vendors or wholesale accounts and we always wanted our products to be new and creative. We wanted products that weren’t available through other shops. We partnered with a few key female artisan groups in India to hand make our collections, making our visions come to life! Our vibe is very bohemian and earthy/natural in tones with a little Southwestern kick. All products are all individually made by hand instead of by machines. The quality is superb, and since we are working direct with the artisans, we are able to leverage our costs which allows us to make our products more affordable to our consumers.
4. What reactions do you get from your clients? Do they love your products?
We have been blown away by the reviews and comments from our customers. The main feedback we get is that the quality is amazing for the price paid. Our products allow people to constantly update and revamp their living spaces without breaking the bank. We love to see that so many people follow our journey on Instagram (IG handle: rebelvilla) and we use their feedback to help us determine what will ultimately be in our upcoming collections.
5. What are the advantages of Rebel Villa?
We provide our customers with unique modern decor that is sustainably sourced and affordable. Our gift boxes offer personalization and an easy way to send love to someone when they can’t do it in person. During times like these, where COVID 19 has separated all of us, we are providing a way to connect and spread joy. There are not many companies out there that can provide so many options in terms of gift giving, from home decor to candles to live plants…. we have it all!
